The Dresser

I just want to say sorry, it has been a while since our last post. Projects and blogging have been put on the back burner for Blake as his class is in full swing.

I love having projects to work on. I love it so much that I usually don’t have just one in the works. Right now I have no less than three projects in process (two larger and one smaller project) and that does not include yard work or any of the other projects Blake and I take on together. One of the things I love to do is refinish furniture. While visiting an open house a few weeks ago I saw a TV stand that had been made out of an old dresser. I decided that that was exactly what we needed for our western style den. Until now we had been using an old TV stand Blake had in college. My thought was to hit up a few garage sales in search of an older dresser that needed a little love. However, before I had the opportunity to do so we were given a dresser that had previously been in Blake’s grandmother’s house. It is perfect! It even came with a mirror that I have great plans for, but that’s a future project!

So I have started another project. Step one was to remove the first row of drawers. That space will be converted into a shelf for our TiVo and DVD player. Step two was to sand the old stain off the dresser. This is well under way. Thanks to our handy electric sander this task hasn’t been that difficult.

I am already having fun with this project. I am currently planning the next few steps which will include adding the TiVo/DVD player shelf and installing some support so the dresser can hold our TV as well as staining the piece and finishing the job off with some new (hopefully Western style) hardware. More to come later…

  1. Great idea! I have this feeling that when GP and I finally have a house, we might not have so much $$ to furnish it (what with being constant students and all). Now, refinishing and converting yard sale furniture is something I can do!
