Please Pass the...

Each week a new topic or ingredient is posted and readers can contribute by posting receipts on their own blog. This week's theme is Please Pass My Favorite from Mom. One of my mom's best dishes is her lasagna...


Mom's Lasagna


2 lbs ground meat

¾ c. chopped onion

1 clove garlic, minced

1 can (1 lb) tomatoes – diced

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

2 T parsley flakes

1 T. sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp basil

3 cups ( 2-12 oz cartons) cottage cheese

l/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese

1 T parsley flakes

1 l/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp oregano

1 pkg ( 8 oz or larger) lasagna noodles, cooked and drained

¾ lb. mozzarella cheese, shredded

l/2 c. grated parmesan cheese

Cook ground meat, onion and garlic in large deep pan til meat is brown and onion tender.Drain off all fat.

Add tomatoes and tomato sauce, 2 T. parsley , sugar, 1 tsp salt and basil.


Heat to boiling and reduce heat – simmer uncovered 1 hour or shorter. When done take out l/4 cup to put on top of finished lasagna.

Heat oven to 350 degrees.


Mix cottage cheese, l/2 c. parmesan, 1 T. parsley, 1 l/2 salt. And the oregano.

In pan (13x9x2 or larger) layer noodles, meat sauce, mozzarella cheese and cottage cheese mixture – repeat.

Top with l/4 cup meat sauce, l/2 c. parmesan cheese.


Bake uncovered 45 minutes – till it is bubbling hot in the center. For easier cutting, let stand 15 minutes after removing from oven.
